Field Post Stationery
A —.40[fillér] surcharge was applied to available non-denominated (postage free) 1944-issue Hungarian field post cards. Here, however, the production site is less certain, as both Uzhhorod and Mukachiv have been mentioned in the literature. Nevertheless, a slight majority of Carpatho-Ukraine experts tend to favor the latter location as the likely source.
A total of 2,000 rose-colored field post cards were overprinted. The black obliterating bar at the upper left can be either 45mm or 63mm. An unknown quantity of both these types, but with prior Khust surcharges, are also known to exist [a lengthwise rectangle with bilingual Czech (upper) and Ukrainian (lower) text, and an 18f in the middle], see Figure 19. Some sources claim that the Khust overprint exists in both handstamp and machine (typographed) versions. We cannot, however, verify the existence of the machine overprint.

A total of 5,000 gray-green field post cards were also overprinted, but only with a 63mm black bar (Figure 20). Contrary to some claims, they do not exist with prior Khust markings (however, a single example has been found with a prior Mukachiv ČSR overprint).

A few printing varieties are known (see Figures 21 and 22). These cards are also known with skewed and doubled overprints (Figure 23).
